1999 Ranger 3.0 V6 muffler take off.

Hey guys, my friends just told me about this today. They say it sounds pretty sick, but I was wondering, how do you just unbolt it? Do you unbolt it from the cat or the muffler?

I really wanna try it and see what it sounds like, so let me know!! Thanks!

You can unbolt the tailpipe from the cat pipe...it's two 15mm bolts. BUT....loss of power and aweful interior droning will happen.

Better off paying the money for a good muffler like a Flowmaster Super 44 and use the existing tailpipe.

Your truck will sound like crap. You have a small v6 not a v8. It will sound like the worst 4 banger you ever heard at high rpm's.

And yes just crawl under the truck and take the bolts off from the front side of the muffler. If your exhuast is original to the truck you will likey have a boat load of rust to deal with. I would recremend some saftey glasses.

I have a friend who works at his dads muffler shop here in vegas, 'Best Muffler Shop', and I can get a hook up, but my parents dont wanna spend $50 total for an exhaust unless its my own money. and im still looking for a job so, i just wanna test it out. If i like it i'll keept it until i get the flowmaster.

i had a 3.0L that had no muffler on it sounded like a pissed off honda at anything above 2000rpm, i would not recommend that. but to each his own i guess..... now my 4.0L SOHC has no muffler or tail pipe and its pretty quiet... why i dunno.

It sounds great at idle, anything above that its terrible though. And the drone is insane, drove me crazyyyy. Save up for a Flowmaster Super 44, way worth it.

Why sound like a 11 second car when you can only run a 19? Also you lose power when you yank the muffler.

What if you just cut out your muffler and throw in a straight piece of pipe in place of it?
I've got a cherry bomb red muffler and it's not loud at all.
I went straight pipe for a day out the rear and it wasn't too bad inside. I don't know how it sounded to the other drivers tho.

My friend hooked my other friend with a semi-used flowmaster 40 ($50) installed and all total.

So he'll hook me up pretty good, but unless I get a $20-30 deal, its all on me lol.

You mention parents, so I take it you're just a kid, but don't take this the wrong way. You want to do an exhaust mod that will achieve very little of anything or nothing at all aside from changing the sound. You're young and have a lot of energy that you have the need to do this. Save your energy. You'll thank yourself later. fddriver02 made a very valid point. Absolutely no point in making it louder if it isn't fast to begin with. Mustangs, Cobras, Camaros, Firebirds, Corvettes, Chevelles, etc., etc............cars that make gobs of power that are capable of more when freeing up exhaust flow is reason to do this. I consider myself a good judge of character and a person's tastes when it comes to this sort of thing. I've been around musclecars almost 20 years to know what is and what isn't tasteful. If I heard your truck in traffic (the way you intend to make it sound) I'd think you're a wanna-be/poser/ricer and that you have poor taste. If you're not impressing me I can guarantee you're not impressing anyone else. That's just my two cents and again, not meant to be taken the wrong way.
