I am about to go shoulder deep in the 2.9 with a blown head gasket and I personally have not done this before. Just wondering if anyone had any useful tips or what to expect and what I might besides the the obvious head gasket....

You'd have better luck in the 4.0L forum, since they are both Cologne Engines. The 3.0L isn't even closely related.
