3.0 V6 Cylinder heads

Hi everyone I have a 2002 ranger and I’m currently doing a gasket rebuild and I broke a bolt on the driver side head and don’t know how to get it out any advice. Also any advice on how to get the heads off there’re pretty stuck on the block and manifold. Thank you.

Carefully pry them to loosen from the block. I’ve had good luck with pb blaster on stuck bolts. Spray the bolt, amd tap on it a little to help work the stuff in. Take your time......if part of the bolt is sticking above the block, use some vice grips gently work the bolt num back and forth just a bit to help loosen the rust. Heat always helps if it’s sticking up some. If it’s below the block deck, you can drill it (centered) and use an easyout. I drill all the way through, and use more pbblaster, so the threads can get wetted from the bottom too. Be patient, it will eventually loosen. This stuff is so good that I fought a muffler one time for damn near 45 minutes, trying to get it off an exhaust pipe cleanly. No matter what I did, the thing held onto that pipe solidly. I grabbed my can of pb, shot the joint, and braced myself to give it a big tug. The thing flew off the pipe like it was greased, and I dam near knocked myself out when the muffler hit my jaw. LOL. Good luck, eh?

Exhaust manifold bolts can be a real pain. As said above, PB Blaster is your friend. If you can squirt them down the day before, it really helps too. Whoever you take your heads to for reconditioning can remove the broken bolt. You should still be able to remove the head. Just pop it loose with a regular screw driver or small pry bar. And yes, I think you need the heads reconditioned, not just a gasket change, even though the ones you have on there look like they are in great shape. Recent work?

Is it an exhaust manifold bolt or head bolt?

What did you do to get the bolt out _ and it isn't quite clear that it was an exhaust manifold bolt, although I've never heard of a stuck head bolt ?
