3.0 vs. 4.0

i had a '97 3.0/5 speed that would smoke the doors off of my '01 4.0/auto. is that common or do I have something wrong?

the automatic transmission loses quite a bit of power......a 5 speed doesn't lose as much power...

for example, when i had the automatic in my truck & a XCal tune on it, it wouldn't touch my truck now without a tune......

wait 01? isn't that the newer 4.0L SOHC. I'd have to see it because the 4.0L SOHC have a lot more power than are trucks.

idk about that my old 3.0 could smoke my 4.0 SOHC and both were auto trannys, could be that i had a lot of work on my 3.0 but idk its strange

doubtful unless the trucks were not compareable as far as body/cab style or you had a lot of engine work on the 3.0.......

comparable trucks, one with a 3.0 and one with a 4.0, the 4.0 will always come out on top.....unless the driver sucks...

like i said, identical trucks (minus engine difference), the 4.0 will prevail all the time......

If you are talking SOHC 4.0 you are looking at roughly 60 horsepower and 60 lb/ft of torque more. You would need a lot of work to get a 3.0 to hang with a 4.0. Even a 2wd reg. cab manual trans. 3.0 vs an extended cab auto. 4x4 4.0 wouldn't hang...

you would be surprised in that.......the added weight of the 4.0, extended cab, and the 4wd would eat up the 60 HP difference pretty quick....

now i doubt the 3.0 would come out on top, but it would be A LOT closer than compareable trucks...

i have a hard time believing that. my 4.0 beat a whipple charged 3.0

as for the 4.0 auto vs manual i would keep right up with bill. he only beat me on the shifts. since my tranny is built i bet i could give it a run for its money

The guy I bought my truck off of, he was my coworker at the time and got an auto 05 4x4 extended cab 4.0. After work we'd mess around at stop lights on the way home. Id take off giving it all shes got, and hed wait a second to take off. He'd give me about 1 car length, then Id hear his tires squeal and hed come up on me and start to pass me while im still pushing it. We'd run out of road though because it'd be rush hour. Ive never raced him on an open stretch. He did run his new truck and my truck when he owned it in the quarter mile at the local track. He said he got high 15s out of mine after the tune, intake, exhaust, not sure what it did stock. He ran his 05 stock and got like mid 16s, so im not really sure who would win in the long run. Out of the hole he would get me though on the street. I myself, have never ran mine in the quarter mile. Im just compairing these two trucks, in theyre configurations. I know if they were the same cab and everything hed win everytime.
