ac help

ac help

ok i got a 2001 ranger v6 non flex fuel, and the ac compressor is not kicking on, i ran a hot wire to it and it kicks on and the ac works, could someone please help me out.

Well have you put a gauge on it yet to see how much is in there cause if they get to low your low pressure switch will not let the compressor kick on. But I'd really check that out don't wanna burn your compressor up by running a hot wire to it if its low. Let me know if that's not the problem an will go from there.

ok, will put a gauge on it this afternoon. I took the hot wire off but also I can be driving and after about 10 or 15 mins it will kick on and start workin good. but I will put a gauge on it.

Sounds like same issue I'm having, I just drive between 4 and 6 miles and it kicks on - only started after I had to let the wife drive it for a week ... hmm..

Could be a bad low pressure switch, try jumping the 2 leads on the pressure switch and see if that turns it on. If the system is low on r134 this switch will keep the compressor from engaging and running dry.
And BTW, those little re-fill gauges are meant to be read while the compressor is running as they measure the low-pressure side of the system. You could still get a "full" reading on a low system if the compressor is bad or not running when you hook the gauge up.
