Air Resonator replacement for 1992?

Hi all! Newbie here. I've recently come into possession of a 1992 Ranger XLT 2WD with a 3.0L, and because I live in California and get to deal with the joys of smog emissions testing, the stock plastic air tube held to the manifold by duct tape ain't gonna cut it. The original part number is F27E-9R504-BA, and I haven't had much luck finding that exact part online. Anybody know the interchangeability of intakes from similar-year Broncos or Explorers in a case like this? Something like part # F37Z-9B659-H looks very similar with the same baffling and everything, but if there's one thing I've learned from online car-parts shopping it's not to eyeball anything.

A 26 year old truck that has to get emission testing? California laws suck.

I pulled the air resonator out of my '04 and it is in the basement somewhere. I don't think they are the same part being 12 years difference but if they are let me know and I will ship it to you. PM me if you need it.

You're telling me... any vehicle after 1975 has to be smog inspected.

Thanks for the offer! I think I found one that will do the trick, but if I end up having any problems I'll let you know.

Same problem on a 92 Ranger

Did you find the correct part, or an interchangeable one? I have the same truck, also in California, and need the same item. I've also been unable to find an exact replacement part. If you found something that worked, and passed smog, please let me know. Thanks.

Hey Jim,

I ended up buying Ford Part # F37Z-9B659-H and slapping it on there. I've since learned that that particular component is only part of a 'visual test' by the emissions inspector and don't believe it affects the sniffer test where they stick that thing up the tailpipe in any way. I'm thinking he just failed me because the 'duct tape and prayers' solution doesn't fly as well in California as it did in rural north Texas. It's about $80 on Amazon, and should do you fine.

Best,

Parrot

Of course! Glad to help, I'm by no means an expert but it's always nice to talk with someone with the same truck in the same configuration.

That did the trick. It smogged (after it failed and I had to have the fuel filler pipe assembly replaced!) like a champ. Thanks a bunch.
