Alternator Pulley - W/out an impact wrench, how best to remove?
Alternator Pulley - W/out an impact wrench, how best to remove?
I'm not sure what size nut is holding the pulley on (other than it's a big one) but since I lack an impact wrench, I found searching around that the best method is to remove the alternator, use a crescent wrench on the pulley to hold it in place and then manhandle the nut off. That being said, does anyone have other ideas on this, and or, know what specs to torque the nut holding the pulley back to?
use a rubber strap wrench to grip the pulley

if you don't need the stock pulley, you can man handle it by gripping the pulley with channel locks. It is very easy to unscrew by hand once it is loose. One or two good whacks with a hammer on the wrench or socket will get it loose. Trying to loosen it by just pulling with the hand would be difficult.
Also, taking the whole alternator to a local shop should be very inexpensive, if not free.

I'm pretty sure the nut gets tightened as the motor is running. You should be ok to tighten as best you can with the belt installed, then let the motor do the rest.
