A/c stops cooling randomly

Hi I have a ranger v6 2000 and the a/c cools but only when its in high and sometimes it randomly stops cooling (compressor turns off) what can it be??? Thanks!

the compresser does cycle on and off every once in a while....might just need to be recharged too
