Changed My spark plugs today
 

while i was at the dealer today snaping a few pics of the new ranger i decide to get some new spark plugs and man the stock plugs are expensive it cost me 44 bucks for six. They weren't to hard to put in either just the one by the heater box was a pita. I notice it has a lot better idle now to, I haven't go out yet to see if there is any difference yet.

these only had 40000 on them but i figure get it done while i had the time do it.

i dunno why ford says we dont have to replace them til 100k, thats too long, im gonna change mine at 50k probably, but i got another 35k to go lol!

Yeah, I heard your were supposed to replace spark plugs in general every 10k miles. I'm replacing mine as soon as I get some cash. How hard was it to replace them? Also, uh... 44 bucks for 6 plugs that's like 7 bucks a plug (im a genius) what kind were they?? I went to o'rielly and all they had was Bosch 2x Platinum.

I went with Motorcraft for my car.


Autolite is the same

It wasnt to hard only took me no more than 20 minutes to check the gap (which i was lucky and didnt have to cap them because them were at .045 inches already) remove the old and replace with the new. The kind i got were motorcraft platinum part number AGSF-32F-MF4 same ones that come stock. and they actually were 6.95 a plug plus tax.

motorcraft=autolite
autolite double platinum = 3.89$ (most times with rebate to 2.99 or 2.89)

i put motorcraft double platinums in mine at 30k. Got 'em for free with 1000k on 'em couldn't refuse.

i went to go replace my plugs at 43k when i installed the ee supercharger and they were all still gapped correctly so i didnt replace them .... so now i have 6 new plugs sittin in my tool box at work haha

what were yours gapped at?

ive got a new set of JBA wires that came yesterday.. gonna go buy some ngk irriduim plugs soon... who knows when i will get around to installing them.

I bought my Motorcraft plugs at Autozone for pretty cheap at 30,000 miles. Noticed a difference in idle. I would not leave them in for 100,000 miles.

Are there Iridiums for the 3.0?

10K miles - that was in the dark ages before platinum tipped electrodes. You can go 50K or more easy on platinums in a stock engine. The claimed 100,000 mile interval is definitely pushing it, though, IMO.

You can buy the replacement platinums at the dealer for $7~8 or you can buy the same plugs anywhere else for about half that.

lol EXTREME over kill...there won't be any gain significant enough to warrant the extra $$$ for Iridiums...hell when I was back in the turbo 4-banger crowd they didn't use Iridium's on 350-500whp motors let alone a 135whp motor...standard coppers like everyone else...and I got AutoLite 764's (2 steps colder than stock, but the recommended plug) for less than $8 at Wal-Mart...they're coppers and won't last as long (like 25K miles vs 60k with plats), but I have always said/heard that it's better to change your plugs more often in order to better meter the condition of your engine (plugs can tell ya A LOT about how your motor is performing)...Autolite plugs, as stated above, are the exact same thing as Motorcraft plugs.

Try Acdelco Rapidfire Or Accel U-groove Plugs.

dont tell me you bought those plugs at the dealer...man you got hosed....**** what i think the 8 i needed for my truck(dual spark plug per cylinder) i got autolite platnuim cost me like what $28 from my local mom and pop part shop....

my irridiums were only 7.59 a pop. autolites or motorcraft are like 6.(i thuink maybe 4) idk to me it was worth it. my truck has never ran this good before.

what does it matter what you spend your money on as long as your happy :shrug:

i know i could have got my for a cheap price some other place than the dealer but hey the dealer is 6 minutes from the house where the nearest autozone is 20 minutes so what i paid more in plugs i saved in gas plus the guys that work at autozone around me arent the most helpful people. the truck runs great now and thats all that i was looking for.

i think i may want to replace mine soon.. i have the originals with 83000 miles on them now.. last year at like 68k i was going to replace them.. but took one out, and it looked like it was still in good shape, so i didnt bother. i took them back and got my money back... but i may want to go ahead and get them replaced.. couldnt hurt i guess.

I got new plugs and wires sitting in my bed, waiting for a spare minute to put them on. I'm hoping the idle will smooth out some, and I guess I can always hope for better gas mileage. I used to get a solid 19.5, but lately its been 18.5 every time.

first never put bosch plugs in anything but VW's and benz's, there garbage!

at 40K your motorcraft plugs are about 1/2 way done, you really shouldnt need to replace them till 80-90K, so you waisted you cash sorry. now you do however need to change your fuel filter every 30K. and how the heck do you have 40K on a 04 already, i just hit 25K and i have had the truck almost 2 years.
