Does anyone make a bigger throttle body?
I have a 2004 2wd Ranger and i was wondering if anyone makes a bigger throttle body? the one on there is so tiny and/or does another fit on there?
Engine size would help..

The TB from an Escape with the 3.0 Duratec will bolt up. You will have to port your intake manifold and one or two other things.

I have a 3.0L sorry i totally forgot about that. And an escape tb will fit?

The stock throttle body is 50MM. BBK makes a 56MM one that works, but requires you to reuse your current throttle shaft. a 60MM unit off a 3.0 Duratec Ford Escape works but requires filler to make it seal. With the stock throttle body being so small and the 3.0 being such a revver, going to a larger throttle body should show some improvements. You probably shouldn't go any larger than 60MM though...unless your making over 250HP. |
It's a 3.0
You can polish a turd , but you just end up with a shiny turd. They are not a high performance engine , just a reliable one. |
Yeah i know that the 3.0 suck but i got my 04 for 650 bucks (it was in a wreck) so im just trying to help the car out a bit. im re-doing the whole truck. and the way i want it so
$650 What was wrong with it?

Recent thread over on ---. This guy used a Sable/Taurus Duratec TB. The difference between the Sable/Taurus one and the Escape/Tribute is the throttle linkage is on the opposite side for the Sable/Taurus. More work is involved.
**it doesn't like the link for some reason. It is in the 3.0 section over there** As for the Escape one http://www.cardomain.com/ride/333436...lar-cab/page-4 I expect gains would be minimal, except for better throttle response in the low end. |
Huh. Interesting. I want an older escape. I was looking at all the duratec info/ motors and it looks like a lot of them will bolt up into other models. I want to hit up a few junk yards to see if that is true...Nm I'm gonna stop because I'm not trying to thread jack.
PSIJOE it was hit in the front and rear and the dealer i use to work at got it in for 400 bucks and i gave em 650 for it. i need a new bed and new front end. no frame damage. and i get to make it look like i want so its pretty sweet. so the escape one would be the better choice?
Your not thread jacking PSIJOE
Oh that's sick dude. Well if it was that cheap might as well rock (the motor) the way it is. Then do the body/everything else you want. Since you got it so cheap you can throw in a 5.0 and have your truck done for the price around what people pay regularly?
yeah but why not do the motor up a little bit the 3.0 needs it anyways and maybe down the road i will do a new 5.0 or something. plus i work at ford so thats a plus
I've have a 3L and I just left it stock. It's not gonna get much faster after you even spend a few bucks. Use that money towards your swap if you plan on doing that...Or put it towards other mods...You said the 3.0 doesn't run right?
The escape one is the one to go with. The taurus has the linkage on the wrong side. It can be done but more work is involved. That cardomain link seems pretty straight forward and pretty much sums it up. It was the most information I could find.
I need to get motivated and do this myself. I have had the throttle body laying around for months now. |
How much do you think the TB will give you hp wise or throttle response?
Oh no it runs fine just thought about doing little things. i like re doing things a lot on my cars
OK that's understandable.
Yeah like my one sable has black 18s on it and a home made cold air intake and blacked out all the chrome parts on it and a custom made radio bezel and two 12s in the trunk.
lol nice.
Oh and its lowered lol i got reallllllllly bored one day and thats what happened
Horsepower gain from putting a larger TB on a stock engine = ZERO.
That's the reality. Any perceived increase in throttle response is false. It is simply because a bigger TB will flow more at any percent throttle opening. So it's the same as just putting the gas down a bit further with the stock TB. But at WOT the flow will be the same, because the stock engine will not out flow the stock TB. The stock TB is small because the engine doesn't pull much air. |
