Exhaust for 3.0

Just bought my 01 Ranger with the vulcan...looking into exhaust for some better than stock sound.

Any suggestions or preferences? I'm thinking single in dual out...

I'm guessing the 4.0L sounds a little bit better than the 3.0 though. I know on the v6 mustangs the magnaflows get pretty high pitched above 2500 rpms.

I could send you a video of my 3.0 with 40 series flowmaster single inlet into duals with 3 1/2 tips. sounds pretty deep for a 3.0. I always get compliments on it.

I liked the Gibson sound. But it got too loud for me. Now I rocking a Flowmaster 70 series. Couldn't be happier. Its nice and mean when I'm getting on it but mellows down in cab untill you cant hear it anymore. Course I also replaced ALL the cats with one single magnaflow high flow unit. That did wonders for the sound. It sounded like a 5.0 Stang on 40's with the Gibson system. VERY loud and deep.

I think my truck may be the exception trent :P so far no one has put on my muffler on their 3.0. It just sounds so BA... I havent heard of any locals or heard them in my town running what Ive got. Im still king around here MWAHAHA.... silly high schoolers and their "modded 4.0s and 2.3's" thinking they can take on my beast at the track.

Sorry for the off topic. Check out FloPro Twister mufflers, they sound awesome and are completely different from everything else ive heard.

ok well im taking the plunge in two weeks. im going to go magnaflow 2.5 in and 2X2.5 out... i have a 2003 supercab. im thinking real heavily on a dual exit right in front of the passengers side, what do you guys think? also i was wondering if you guys could give me a link of the size mufffler that would fit my truck or which one i can get. the shops around where i live dont stock them, and i would rather save the money and buy it off the internet... thanks for the help.

Cool, sounds like I have some options :) Might have to look into Gibsons or Borlas. I know Borlas are awesome because of the stangs, and I've heard gibsons on trucks and they sounded good.

go all out and cut the cats off, dual flow. I have dual magnaflow before the axle 2.5 inch. sounds amazing. nice low rumble at idle. and around 3000 rpms it really puts out a nice sound. Braaaap!

No vehicle should be driven without cats or some type of aftermarket muffler... it will just sound like ***. You will need the back pressure for the low end, if you take that away you lose what little low end you already have. Not trying to start anything but just dont run without any cats or some type of muffler/ glasspack.... people will sterotype you in a heartbeat... not even lying.

I just got a mgnaflow on my 03. fyi it has 5 cats!!!! haha. anyways do tho all those cats i did a 14" muffler instead of the more commen 18" that most of the 4.0's run. i did 2 1/2" catback single in dual out. i believe the tips were 3" possibly 2.75 but it sounds great! i have some pics up on my profile of how it looks.

you should unbolt your exhuast right at the flange behind the last cat and then see what it sounds like. its the deepest 3.0 i've ever heard. i left it like that for a couple of days but the cab drone is terrible so i bought a thrush glasspack 28 inch, then dual tips. if you were to get a glasspack i'd get a smaller one than a 28 inch just to make it a little bit louder. it is the cheapest way to go and it sounds pree nice to me
