Filter replacements for a K&N

I bought the new 3.0L Aircharger kit from K&N this summer, and would like to get a replacement cone filter for the intake.

With Ford looking at voiding a warranty issue that relates to the K&N specific filter (oil residue), I would want to purchase some other brand to use for this air charger, like Volant for example.

The filter cone can't be all that uncommon.

Is there a way to cross reference the model #'s (RX-4860 is the K&N number) with other manufacturers to get the correct replacement?

the volant uses the same oil impregnated gauze filter, so that probably wouldnt do any good. which issue are they talking about voiding

If you have any "sport compact tuner stores" in your area they should have plenty, I think i saw some at Pep Boys. They should be well under $20. They use foam/sponge material instead of oiled cotton. The only factor on cross referencing is the diameter of the opening. Just measure it and make sure the throat will fit your tube.

Personally I would keep the K&N. Those sponge ones can be pretty bling bling looking.

The only replacement that FORD is going to consider correct is for you to go back to the stock airbox and a paper filter. There is no paper filter on any air intake kit that Ford is going to consider correct. Generally, the manufacturers don't condone replacing the airbox and its paper filter with ANY after-market air intake kit, no mater what the kit's cone filter is made of. And a lot of dealers will try to tell you that the kit, or a part of the kit, such as the filter, caused this or that warranty-voiding problem, even tho usually it didn't.
