Alright heres my question, I know that the popular muffler of choice for Ranger owners is the FlowMaster 40 Series.

I'm dead set on buying one in two weeks time and having it installed towards the begining of Feb as soon as I find a local shop that will install it for a reasonable price.

For the New Englanders in MA, NH and ME I'm looking a Lou's Custom exhaust for the install.


Anyways with that aside my question is which FlowMaster 40 series would be a good choice for ample HP gain, a dual outlet or a single outlet type?

My goal is to get a dual look on my truck but would it serve any purpose as a HP gain?

And if anyone can explain the differences between the two types I'd highly appreciate your input.

 

The only difference is the dual out will be louder.

 

The single out 40 series will have a mellow upper RPM sound, and the idle wont be as loud; the dual out 40 series will sound kinda ricey in the upper RPMs but will have a nice deep rumbly idle.

 

^^ They're right. The 'ricey' sound happens when you get too much exhaust moving out too fast and you loose backpressure... Hence, when someone goes and just saws off their exhaust they ALWAYS get a ricey sound. The single keeps the flow of exhaust a little more restricted than the dual, so it's not as loud, but it won't rice out on you. The dual is noticably louder and has a wonderful idle, but WILL crackle and sound ricey when in the higher RPM. I found a nice balace: I got a single and cut the pipe short and put on a long tip that splits into dual exhaust like a Y... It doesn't look as good, but the idle is much better, just like the true dual but not as loud. You still the the much loved and sought after Flowmaster wub-wub-wub-wub-wub but it doesn't rice out on you.
