Flywheel/starter alignment

i recently bought an 89 2.9l 4x4. When I bought the slave cylinder had gone bad. So I replaced slave and clutch while i had it apart. After this ran truck for the summer with some noise when starting tried to realign starter to no avail. I have since had to replace flywheel twice and starter twice still having if same issue where the alignment of starter is not right. Grinding noise. Not positive that the engine is original code on block is “9c28”. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Manual trans I assume since you said flywheel

Did the separator plate between engine and trans get put back in, it IS needed for proper starter depth and location
