Fuel system question...

While changing out my fuel pump I snapped a plastic "Y" fitting. My question is what is the big canister looking thing that site up in between the bed rails, kind of where the spare tire would go? There is one fuel line going in and what appears to be a " breather " line running back to the tank. The truck cam from CA so I'm not sure if its some kind of CA emissions thing. Thanks for any input guys

I'll take pictures tomorrw. Its not the fuel filter. The fuel filter is more towards the fron of the tank on the driver side frame rail. This is in the back of the truck behind the tank tucked up in between the frame rails. It kind of looks like a air tank, I know its not lol. Its maybe about 2ft in length and maybe 6"-8" in dia
