Wanna hear something weird, i have an 06 3.0 auto ext cab. Last tank i got 315 miles on it. today i go to fill up and i only got 230 on this past tank. Both tanks were back and forth to work on the hwy. Only mod is a k&n drop in. Hmmm...

 

I have a K&N drop in and get 21-25mpg.

 

Your wheel/tire combo looks great. Probably worth the extra gas.

 

I'm also stunned at the numbers being posted.

I have a '91, 2wd, reg cab, 3.0, auto, and I get 11-15mpg city/highway mix and 17mpg if I do ALL highway (meaning I fill up 100 yards before the highway onramp, then fillup again immediately after I get off the highway and check the mileage).

I drive it pretty easy too...it just sucks for gas mileage...

 

I was wondering, does anyone have any suggestions to improve gas mileage. I am running a stock 3.0L engine with magnaflow exhaust. I have Maxis Mudder tires and I know that does cause some reduction in mpg but the odometer has been adjusted. 14 to 16 mpg just seems a little absurd. I if any body has a magic solution, I need in on the secret!

 

wish i had a suggestions but i did not do any mod on my truck after i bought it a month ago, still have not found out yet how much gallon tank i have but i think my is a 20 gallon and get bout 315 mile

 

I just got back from driving through the mountains. 150.5 miles and I used 6.888 gallons of gas. I always let the pump shut off and use two more shut offs after that. 21.8495 mpg. That's with an easy 20 miles of dirt roads going up the side of a mountain. Without the side trip I usually get 23. I set the cruise between 65-70.

 

I get somewhere just over 200 a tank, 3.0 5spd long bed. i get about 16 miles to the gallon 60% highway 40% city

 

3.0 v6 supercab and im getting about 250-270 driving mostly highway. If I do strictly highway the entire week I get about 300...very rare though. I drive pretty hard and im sure my 32s dont help. I guess mine is ok..

What people get to a tank doesn't mean much, I have a 19.5 gallon so I should get 409.5 miles at 21 mpg. What is your MPG? that's what matters not knowing your tank size.

I used to get about 18 mpg in city w/ my 02 3.0 reg cab on 33's and 4.10's. But that is with a few mods done to the motor.

Well this last tank, I went 350 miles, 95% city on 16.9 gallons. Are you saying that you got 315 out of 19.5??

Magic Solution: Get a cold-air-intake

Exhaust alone don't do crap for mileage but CAI and exhaust do. I imagine even a K&N drop in and the Air-Box mod would get you better mileage. I was getting 21MPG with Flow 40, K&N intake, and stock tires. Now with 33's I'm at 17.5MPG.

For those with speedo's NOT calibrated: Simply take the MPG you get when you calculate (distance-since-last-fill-up) DIVIDED BY (amount-of-gallons-required-to-fill-up). Once you have that multiply it by (stock tire height/new tire height).
EXAMPLE: You travelled 240 miles since you last filled up. It takes 14.117 gallons to fill-up.

240/14.117=17MPG ( uncalibrated ) .

Say you have 33's now and 28's stock.

33/29=1.137

THEN------17x1.137=19.344MPG( calibrated )

I know it's got better acceleration for passing but still not sure of the mpg. I seem to get good mileage so it might be doing something.

 

humm Chris I could be wrong! next time when i need to fill up then will have it writen down so not forget so it seem it does not make sense to me i could have more mile with 19.5 while your is at 16.5

No secret. I have low rolling resistance tires, 2wd, a 3.55 gear, a manual trans, amsoil in everythnig (it makes a difference), cold air intake, and a flowmaster 40 series muffler. Oh, and a tonneau cover (this helps mileage as well)

Thats it. No big tires or big gears, and no heavy sub boxs and stuff, not that they add much weight, but every little bit makes a difference....

 

guys you should only test your milage once. You should only throw in like 25 bucks in when its 1/4th from empty. I bet you'll get better mpg that way! A gallon of gas is 8 pounds! 17 gallons is 136 pounds! A lot of dead weight! I got like 20 more miles to a tank of gas with my pulleys and intake. E fan and tonneau is next! I get like 330 and then when i fill back up, it takes like 16.9 gallons. 19.5 mpg?

 

20mpg on my first tank of gas with the 33's... down from 22mpg

 

All things considered, thats pretty good....
