gear eaten off crank angle sensor 03 3.0L
The gear on the bottom of the crank angle sensor/camshaft sencro is being shaved down to nothing when the teeth get thin enough it takes a couple off completely which causes a total loss of oil pressure I replaced the sensor the first time and it ate the new one in less then 5k miles I had replaced it before ,when it was chirping and had stalled, several years ago Is there anything that can cause that gear to be damaged so quickly I have done several minor maintenance repairs and have been involved in diagnostics having worked at a parts store but have no real knowledge of internal engine so any help is appreciated

I have been debating if I should rebuild it or just get a crate motor I have or can barrow any special tools if needed to complete the job. However I have basic knowledge and skill in vehicle maintenance but have not done anything with internal components at this point
Can you describe the chirping sound. I've got a chirping sound in my Ranger. I was thinking it was bearing in a pully going out. I'm about to drive 8 hours for a camping trip. The last thing I need is for the truck to break down on me during the trip.
i just rebuilt the bottom end of my 3.0, new crankshaft etc. basic tools and a torque wrench. There really isnt any special tools for the inside. I left the heads attached because i lost the rod bearings and seized the motor. Nothing went wrong on the top side. all back together running great. Seriously total parts costs was around 600.
