Harmonic balancer - same for Ford Ranger and Mazda B3000? Price is $100 higher!

I'm doing a timing chain job on my 1995 Mazda B3000 and replacing the harmonic balancer "while I'm in there", as well as water pump and thermostat, upper and lower radiator hoses (just replaced the radiator, fan blades and clutch).

The Ford part is easily available and cheap, but the Mazda part is order only and about $100 more expensive. The description reads: replaces aluminum, removable pulse ring, for the Mazda part.

Last I checked, my truck is the same as a Ford Ranger on everything except the wheels, grill and badges.

I wanted to have the part in hand before I start the job on the 25th of this month. Any help is appreciated.

You should be fine ordering the Ranger one... I just checked our ATP catalog and it lists the same part. The cheaper one you see for the Ranger is likely a Dorman one. It should work just fine!

Thank you FULLSCALE, but I've decided to abandon the timing chain job for now. The truck is running okay and after learning that I would have to remove the OIL PAN to do the job, to heck with it. I'd have to borrow my brother's hoist and haul it over here, etc:etc. That's just too much trouble for the little bit of noise that the truck is making right now. Until it starts leaking or running bad, I'm going to leave it alone. Who got me started on doing that job anyway?! Take care.

This thread is 4 years old, but mine is a 2003 and all I had to do was remove the two front oil pan bolts and be careful not to tear the gasket while I pulled the timing cover off. Hope you've still got the truck, & I hope it's still running right!
