I need help!

So how's everyone doing on this fine night?
I'm in need of some help, and I don't know a whole lot about cars or trucks, so please bare with me =[ I have a 99 Ford Ranger, it has 80k miles on it. Just recently it's been acting really funny. It's a manual I might add. Now what happens, is when i shift and it is in neutral for a second, it sounds like the engine is about to explode! I've noticed that when i come to a complete stop the sound stops all of a sudden. I changed the air filter last week, so I don't think that can be the problem. Could a leak in a hose be causing this? Or are there any other suggestions to fixing it

could be your throw out bearing in the clutch, those whine/grind when your foot is on the clutch and in neutral, and it only does it when you shift?

I've noticed it idling a lot higher than it should be. It seems like the engine is pulsing too, almost like a heart beat. I don't know if that's the computer trying to fix its self or what.

the high idle sounds like it could be a vacuum leak, check the 2? hoses that come off the intake hose.. maybe 1? i dont pay attention that well lol

and there's an electrical connection on there too, make sure you didnt knock anything off

I've checked the intake, the one hose that is connected to it seems like it is corroding and falling apart. I'll try and fix that up tomorrow and let you guys know how it turns out! Thanks for the responses.

I fixed the hose on the intake. It's still acting up =\ It seems like something is loose almost. Because when I hit a bump, it usually fixes the problem for a little bit haha. I've noticed that when I take my foot off the pedal as well, it'll still stay at a constant speed! That's definitely not right for a manual speed. I'm going to see if there's anything wrong with my throttle/throttle cable tomorrow morning. I'll keep you guys posted! If anyone has any idea wtf could be wrong I would love to hear it!
