Lightning style exhaust?

I want to get a lightning style exhaust setup on my truck (exhaust side exit before the rear right tire.)

I already asked this qustion on Modyouredge.com, but i want to get other's opinions/ suggestions.

My concern is that it will turn the rear right wheel "black" or make it dirty. Does anybody (with this setup) have any complaints/ or imput for me? thanks

yes it can turn the wheel black if you have a chrome wheel it can also pit the wheel from the exhaust. personally i had a dump under my cab simlar sounding to a side exit and after a year it was to loud i couldnt take it and had a rear exit bent up. also at idle if bend up wrong with your rear slider open on a reg cab you might get some exhaust smoke in the truck i did with my dump i know.

1997 Ford f-150 had side exhaust on all of them it messed up the alum wheel bad and Ford had to do a whole recall on the 1997 f-150 and put the longer pipe. suprises me they acully did the side exhaust on the lightning but they did so o well.

I've NEVER had problems with the wheel getting dirty....my only complaint is the tip is extremely hard to keep clean, but

I've had that NASCAR style [as I call it] exhaust on all my prior trucks. I've never had a problem either. never had a black wheel, pitted wheel, or anything.

Go for it, it's great.

same here i've had my for over 9 months and my wheel hasn't gotten any dirtier then the rest of them. If you want it go for it its a nice exhaust. However i'm about to get mine changed to duals.

SoundPer4mance 06-11-2005 08:12 PM

had it on my 99 ranger, 03 ranger, and now on my 04 F150. its my favorite style, not hillbilly  and ive never had a problem, except for the above mentioned difficulty of cleaning, i usually hit the tips with the wheel cleaning brush after i do the wheels and it works well

I wanted to do the Lightning or pre-runner style exhaust on my truck... But in PA the exhaust has to extend at least even to the body and be behind the rear tire...

What happens if you buy a lightning, They can't make you change it, if the truck is 50 state legal??????????????????????

doc 06-11-2005 10:42 PM

They allow it b/c it comes that way from the factory.... In theory they could ban the truck from the state if they wanted (could not be purchased in the state). They did it with the Jeep Liberty Renegade in KY b/c of the roof lights....

That would suck. :headache:

doc 06-11-2005 10:52 PM

Yeah it would.... I thought it was great that they banned a vehicle froma state b/c of its OR lights!

John Moorehead 06-11-2005 10:54 PM

We are talking about Kentucky, though.....

doc 06-11-2005 10:55 PM

Yeah that is what suprised me the most.... Of all states KY!! Figureing some of the junk they prob have on the road and they worry about THAT!

Redneckstone 06-11-2005 11:31 PM

Good thing my property is in Tenn not KY

doc 06-11-2005 11:40 PM

Yes you are!! In Pa the lights are illegal on the roof if they are not covered. Anything above the headlights needs to be covered during non-offroad use.

wonder if i could talk my way out of it with my stone gaurds "covering" it hehe. acully i would never came back to the state if they tryed that crap. i have been pulled over once since i put them on and the cop never even sayed a word. acully no he did he asked if i use them on the main road, i sayed "hell no" he sayed "ok"

doc 06-11-2005 11:59 PM

Most of the locals would not ever bug you... The staties would thought... They cover 70 - 80 % of the state so you would be screwed!! LOL

Redneckstone 06-12-2005 12:15 AM

Full Throttle, 30-80mph 5.15 Megs

Idle 57k

Cruising at 70-75mph 1.91 Megs

I have more if needed from more angles and crap.

I was running 2.5" piping from the cat-back, through a V-Force muffler, exiting through a tip from a Lightning.

a311fanam 06-12-2005 07:48 AM

Thanks for the videos

Also how do i find out if this type of exhaust is legal in my state? (Rhode Island)

doc 06-12-2005 07:54 AM

Ask the state inspection fascility... They will know what the law is...
