Loud Fan Noise
Loud Fan Noise
I have a 2004 Ranger Edge, when I accelerate I can hear what sounds like the engine fan really loud going from stop to about 10mph, when I am going down the road, you cant hear it, is that normal?
My clutch never actually went out but it started squeaking like crazy in the morning probably because it has been submerged in water and covered in mud so many times. Now the new Vatozone one will not let go. I mean the slightest heat and it locks up. On a hot day with the ac forget you have a v6 under the hood.
I just purchased a 2002 Ranger 3.0 and was surprised by the noisy fan. Fan blade air movement. During the first use of the day, the roar was quite noticable. After 1200 miles of my use it seemed to get quieter. I installed a new one from AutoZone and it now ROARS like a jet when cold. It is embarrassing.
My 1992 4.0 has a new unit from AutoZone and is quiet.
Is it the amount of blades? Am I wrong, I thought these thermostatic units only locked up when heat is present through the radiator.

Update--Since the name Hayden was on the box my new fan clutch came in, I checked their web site. Turns out I am wrong and have a normal operating unit. While the fan air movement noise is there on engine start up, it is gone in about 2 blocks. Well explained on the web site.
Strange though that my 4.0 Ranger never showed these symptoms.

thats crazy that these fan clutches went out so quickly... Im up to 50K and still nothing like that at all... When I originally bought mine back in 04 it would make that noise but went away. Today still runs like a champ.
Yeah Cody, just upgrade to an e-fan... that does away with the clutch altogether. The e-fan will make everything much quieter
