Major Engine Problem - Stuttering (please read)
Ok, so my truck has been driving fine, but today when I was driving to work it started jerking when I accelerated from a stop sign.
It wasn't a violent jerking motion, but it felt almost like the rear end locked up or something. It was something I hadn't really felt before.
Then, I drove it into the parking lot, and it was idling really weird. It was idling around 500 rpm's, while coasting...
I took my lunch break about 15 minutes ago, and when I got in to start it, it sounded really throaty. Like my old carbureted f150. Real lopey sound.
The exhaust was sputtering, basically... Like "bump bump bummmmp bumpbump buuuump bumpbumbumbumbump bump".. if that makes sense...
I accelerated and it continued, and then stopped about 40mph, but wouldn't really go higher than 2000rpms and wouldn't accelerate anymore.
I'm assuming not all 6 cylinders are firing?
There is no check engine light, but my motor is a 2003 and my truck is a 2002, so I dunno if that would affect the computer throwing a code or not.
Anyone have any ideas?
Maybe I just need to change the spark plugs/wires?

How long has it been sitting? It could be on the intake side of things. IAC, IAT, something like that. Check your filter first to make sure there's no visible damage. Clean your MAF filter(rubbing alcohol or they sell cleaner). Also if you want shoot some starting fluid into the intake to see if there's some type of buildup from it sitting?

get a cylinder compression tester. Could be a blown gasket?

I have been having the same problem with mine, but it is due to low voltage.
It may be different, but I'm getting the same problems.
I cleaned out my alternator really well (it was muddy/wet) and it has been perfect ever since.
I would rule out the obvious (electrical, plugs, connections, fuses) then take it a step further...
LMK if I can help at all, I was kinda having the same problem

iac sounds exactly like what happenend to me. i would def. check the iac if you drop down to about 500 rpms then it jumps up and over revs, sits steady at reular rpms and then drops back down. also this only happens at idle, acceleration, and while coasting. it wont do anything funny while decelerating.

Put a bottle of RxP in. Should cost < 10 bucks, and can only help. Other than that, start cleaning electronics (maf, and check the throttle body while you're at it) check vacuum hoses for leaks. Got a PCV valve that might be gunked up? Time for an oil change or tune up? Fuel filters are pretty cheap while you're at it.
Time to show your truck some TLC for letting it sit dormant for so long. :)
