mysterious engine squeek - NOT pulley related

So maybe you guys can help me out with this one...

I have a squeek (sounds just like a belt squeek, although it is not) coming from my engine. high pitched noise that seems cyclical. It appears to be coming from the rear of the engine, not so much the front. I only hear it close to idle, it goes away as the rpms increase over say 1100. The sound comes and goes (not consistently that I have heard yet). Temperature (ambient or motor) doesn't seem to matter.
To me it seems like a noise from the fuel rail or ignition or something... but why would the coil or wires squeek? I don't think they could. so maybe it is the fuel rail or the injectors? Or something inside the engine?

HELP

Search on "CMP" or "Cam position sensor" or "synchro"

Do not delay, that synchro gear drives the oil pump.

When it FAILS, your engine seizes from oil starvation.

Read Wayne's link, and here: Post #8 https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...&highlight=cmp

there is a cam position sensor at the rear of the engine. If it goes bad, say good bye to your engine if it's not replaced in time. No oil pressure if it goes out.

I'm not sure that IS the problem, but a few folks have had it happen. The first symptom appears to be a belt squeeking-like sound at the rear of the engine.

Here is some info:

its the cam synchronizer... make sure you get one from the dealer and not the Dorman one... read on RPS and TCCA for more info on that

here are some how to articles on RPS
