Mod a civic intake?

Seriously, that metal piping that rice rockets use always makes me laugh..
What is the since of having a cold air intake made from a material that holds heat??
I made an intake out of PVC Piping for a friend it works great. At my shop we have this metal-cast paint that makes plastic look like anodized metal. I used PVC piping, some plumbing connectors and the metal paint. The thing sounded mean and gave a little better throttle response.. Also, i have a computer scanner that interfaces with ford ECU's and reads the different OBD-II sensors... The I.A.T sensor reported air charges almost 15-20 Deg lower then stock.. (might not sound like a lot but at least it proves that the PVC did NOT hold the heat!!)
It's at least worth looking into for yourself. I hope this helps you a lil bit.

Heat isn't a problem if you use heat wrap/ceramic coat/etc, but yeah if you're going to make a custom intake anyway, go ahead and use something that won't hold the heat. Custom intakes aren't hard at all. Just remember to keep enough clearance around other items in the engine bay, try to keep it as short as possible, make it grab COLD air (not engine bay air), keep the turns/bends to a minimum, and then make sure it's all sealed nice and tight (meaning, tighten all clamps, use couplers, and use some sort of gasket or RTV to seal up the maf adapter). Very easy stuff. Intakes are not nearly as complex as some people make them out to be...
