oh em gee-maf?

so yesterday me and my friend decided to rig up a little "cold" air intake out of the one he had in his old car. we got it rigged up minus the maf because low and behold, it had a security torx bit which neither of us had. so we decide that it would run fine until today when i go get the bit from the store. i did notice when i drove it that when it would shift from first to second, it would shift hard, like a rookie driving a stick, but i figured eh it needs the maf.

so i go to home depot today, get the bit, plug the sensor into the new intake and start it up. it idled a bit rough at first so i let the engine run for about 5 minutes before pulling away. well i hit 20mph, the shift point, and cough cough cough....done. the engine stalled. i said oh **** turned everything off and unplugged the maf and drove home fine. got in the driveway plugged it in again and it idled rough yet again and after i took it to about 2700 rpms it stalled once again.

so what now besides plug everything stock back in?

So you put the MAF in something it wasn't calibrated to work in? You have to tune for it. Just go stock or buy a real intake. The stock intake is cold air anyway.

I didn't think that it would run without the mass. News to me I guess. Does it just run in "limp mode"?

Yeah. Its just for sound and it still picks up the cold air behind the headlight. I'm sure there is a slight flow increase but nothing that will improve power to where you feel it.

so went out drove it around and it runs like a dream. the idle is now at about 900 and even then when i let off the brake it just wants to keep going like 10 12 mph haha kinda funny. shifts even better than with stock intake, i switched em out to compare and i love it. it sounds awesome and im pretty sure it has more pep so im pretty satisfied
