Oil Pressure Gauge Flickering

I went to the Summit meet it was a 2.5 hr drive w/ no stops and when I got there and finally stopped my oil pressure gauge was moving all over the place. Not really up, but right around where it's supposed to be it flickers. The truck doesn't try to die or anything weird just the gauge. But sometimes when not driving the highway the gauge goes crazy like that and the truck does want to die. I think Tom (premierranger) said something about the sending unit going bad. I'm not sure what this is but I'd like to get it fixed. Also would it be covered by the extended warranty? If so I'll just have the dealer fix it depending on parts cost. Thanks.

ttt, I want to figure this out please....

The gauge jumping does sound like the oil pressure sending switch going bad. However, this sounds like something different:

The sending switch doesn't have any effect on the how the engine runs.

Well could it possibly be the oil pump? I would hope not but how easy is it to change the actual sending switch? Hopefully that'll solve everything but who knows. Its only done the second thing a few times but if you give it gas and let it go back to idle its fine again.

Your 3.0L sending switch is in the block behind the PS cylinder head. It is almost impossible to see from above, so looking in through the PS wheel well with the splash shield out the way works better. Once you find the switch, it is easy enough to change - one electrical connector on top and then just unscrew it from the block.

That sounds more like a sticking Idle Air Controller if it is happening at idle.

Ok well I'll get a new sending switch and replace that. How do I go about cleaning or replacing the IAC? I'm not really sure where its located, just by the throttle body is my guess. But thanks so far for the help. Oh btw the idle problem only seems to happen after I've floored it or revved it to around 5k rpm. Hopefully that helps a bit.

I have a 2002 3.0 Edge....same exact problem with my gauge. At idle it flickers all over, light touch on the gas and it stops moving right away. Checked into any recalls but found none. Idle air controller??? Something to look into.

mine does it too, but only within the last 3-4 months orso it started, when coming to a stop it seems it does it when it shifts into 1st, then the truck idles **** and the gauge jumps around fo a it and after a few seconds it stops or after i rev it a little..

i have had my truck kill before at a stop light because of it,
