oil pump and oil pan relacement
oil pump and oil pan relacement
Hi. I have a 1995 Ranger 3.0 automatic transmission. I took it to the shop where I normally go to have the oil changed. Someone worked on it that normally doesn't and it appears that they stripped the oil pan drain bolt. I had to get a new oil pan and gasket and thought I would have the oil pump replaced since I was going that far. I was going to attempt to do it myself but not sure what it involves. Can someone tell me how difficult it is to replace these parts? Any help is appreciated.

Depends on if you have 4wd or 2wd. The pre 1998 3.0 may be slightly different, but on my 2003 3.0, the oil pan and pump are a nightmare to get to, but easy to replace once you do. I had to lift the engine, remove the transmission and flex plate to get access for the oil pan to come out. Then the pump is held in by a single bolt, and the intermediate shaft that drives it sits far up into the block. If you have a lift it'll be a lot less suffering.
