if your truck is plowing the top off the coolent over flow, you have a head gaset going bad! my 2000 3.0 v6 would over heat, thes run fine, then if i did not warm it up it would blow the top off the overflow. i ordered heads off odessa cylinder head off ebay for 281.00 for both sides. had a little extra work done to them and it two days in front of the house on the street is was finished. now it runs like a new .

I'm having the exact same problem with my 1999 3.0L. Did you do both head gaskets?
Do you mind me asking how much it cost? was ir worth it?

Thanks
Sean

Yes you can use your old head bolts. The manual should have either specs for reuse or tell you to replace with new. You'll usually need to inspect them for damaged or missing threads, reduced diameter, corrosion and also the length before reuse.

Heads will always be done in pairs. Unless you have an inline engine.

what hapened to my 2000 ranger 3.0 it has 144 tho miles on it . the water pump inside fins all wore off couldnt tell they were gone because they were inside but it didnt leak a bit. it was wore down with no fins at all . she ran hot blowed all the water out of it all the time. i took off the heads carried them to the head shop . one was warped. but not cracked, he rebuilt both of them and ground them flat. i bought new head bolts and gaskets, new water pump and thermostat also.i put it all on. it runs like new . no water blowing out of it. i have put about 1000 miles on it sence i repaired it and hasent used any oil at all. i would say it was worth it the heads rebuilt cost me 350 dollars for both of them if you can do it your self for about 800 dollars or about 1200 if you hire it done , where i am located. . i had rather spend 1200 dollars than make payments DJ
