Please say it ain't so!!! :bigeyes2:

Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and by no means a pro under the hood of my 95 2 WD XLT. I have a significant oil leak. two, actually. I know that one is from the oil pan. I can see the gasket bulging out of the front of the oil pan. The other I'm told is valve cover gaskets.

According to my Haynes manual I have to pull the engine to remove the oil pan. Must I really have to do that to replace the gasket, or can I somehow do this without completely taking the engine out? I'm seeing other posts and info that pulling is require to completely replace the pan, but what about the just the gasket?

once the bolt of the pan out you should have enough space to fit a new gasket in...not sure cant confirm but it should logicaly

yea, i'd try to remove all the bolts and sneak that gasket out first. I sure as hell wont remove an engine to stop an oil leak..i'd rather keep filling it with cheap oil for a few years till i got a full size truck than do that - depending on how much oil is leaking.

Thanks for the replies, folks. You are giving me hope. I sure as heck can buy a lot of oil for what pulling an engine is worth.

When I get the pan down, should I expect much of an issue with the old gasket being stuck to the pan? In other words, will I be able to clean the mating surfaces, or should that not be much of an issue?

Thanks again and merry Christmas.

..i might even just use silicone RTC to ghetto rig it..it may even use rtv from the factory - not sure what these cars came with since my gasket is still good *knock on wood*

Factory came with gasket. but you can defiantly use RTV. but be sure to be liberal and generous. as for the valve cover. as long as your clear enough space to get the cover off, its only 6 - 8 bolts, i think. to be honest, you may even be able to get away with just loosing the oil pan, then jamming a ton of RTV in there and bolting it back up.

i've done that last one. loosened it and cracked it open, put rtv on it and snugged it back up. worked for 8 months now and not a drop of oil lol.

You guys are great and Merry Christmas to you. Which RTV should I use and how should I clean the surfaces without getting rag lint in the works?

you could hotdog fold some appropriate grit sand paper and clean the surface.
