Been searching thru the threads and did not find all I needed. Is there any good links describing tranny removal? I guess drive shaft drops down first.
Did one years ago. This a 92 Ranger. Do I just disconnect and drop? Does starter have to come out or anything like that? Little help to start would be cool. Thanks

 

Don't know about the 3.0, but when I did my 4.0......

I took the y pipe off, others squeezed the tranny out w/o it. I could not, and those bolts were a HUGE PITA.

Starter did have to come out. (actually unbolted from bellhousing)

Get a trans jack, or at least the one that adapts a car jack to one. That was priceless on my solo install.

Busted one bolt on the tcase, had to drill that one out and use a bolt.

That's the "highlights" that I remember....

 

When we did my '99 all the proper instructions came with the new clutch....

 

Thanks for the info. I have a good floor jack. When I pull tranny does the bell housing stay on. Or is that a stupid question? I will crawl under tommorrow and check things out.
I will check back in with the status also. Any other advice let me know. I took a tranny out on a El Camino. 20 years ago. I wonder what this might cost at a garage.Thanks

but i hope someone that knows more than you appear to will be helping you. its not a HARD job, but at the same time its not the easiest one out there. Are you planning on doing the horrid slave at the same time?


a clutch job at a garage will probably be around a grand.

 

Do not be concerned. I have a partner that is a mechanic across the street that helps me usually. I will do most of the slave work and he will be there when needed to pull it out. Then he will make sure it is done right. I am heavy on electric and electronics and puters. So it works out usually. Its my sons so he will be helping. I read up on the forums
and have some knowledge what i am doing.
