Rev Limiter?
Rev Limiter?
I have an '06 sport and was wondering if the PCM is programmed to not allow the RPM's to exceed 3K in P or N? I exceeded 3K on the tach while not in gear and the truck started missing, running very erratic. Why would I do this, you ask? I have been trouble shooting a cylinder four misfire for a couple of weeks now (I think that I am going to have to replace the heads) and was running it through all ranges to see where it would smooth out and where it would miss. When I hit 3K- well you know what happened...
Thanks for verifying that for me y'all. I searched the owners and the Haynes first but couldn't find anything to confirm it.
DJ, I think it has to do with the head problem that I am having, as I have changed everything else in the troubleshooting procedure... We'll see what happens after I get the new heads.

Sound's like it's doing what it was designed to.Your truck has a 3k rev limiter in park.
The tach will jump around when you hit it.
If you take the truck out and drive it hard [over 3k rpm]does it still miss?
If not all is good.
