Screamin Demon Coil?

well im still having this misfire after checking everything else I have come to the conclusion that it may very well be a intermittent coil.. I just got the coil in december so that was pretty much my last thing I wanted to check but I don't know what else it could be...

whats the best way to go about checking if this coil is bad? what's the specs on this coil? any more info would be great on how to check the screamin demon coil. :) thanks all.

Did you make sure that all your plug wires are pushed all the way onto the plugs and coil pack? They should click.

How is that coil over the stock Motorcraft coil? I replaced my coil pack in the fall, but I wanted to look into the SD coil. Unfortunatly there's no returns on electrical equipment from the dealership.

in order to test the coil you need a coil pack tester....or a distributer tester...and that will tell you what your volts are and if the coil is putting out, for a lack of better words or description.

Switch back to stock and see if it changes. Let me guess, you threw it away?

Oh man. No proof but he will blame it anyway and argue that he is right.

He will take them apart and lay them across his driveway and say the OEM one is bigger so it works better.

/end hack for me too.

So far im not a big fan of the SD coil... I really didnt notice much in performance or fuel milage gains. I guess if i were to run a boosted application this coil would be beneficial to my needs but to a stock motor, this is not needed in my opinion. Stock coils will be plentiful for the stock motor. SD coils are a bit over kill on stock motors BUT there is always room for upgrade so if you have plans for the motor then i suggest it but otherwise im not happy with it. Not happy because it didnt work properly and made my motor misfire and made my truck throw a couple codes. I have changed the coil out with OEM and now im in the process of seeing if this fixed my problem, SO FAR SO GOOD! Ill keep you posted.

Ok, one more time, the Screamin Demon doesn't have the testing the OEM coilpack does, so I'm not surprised your having trouble with it.

I was gunna replace my coil pack(81000miles on truck), the OEM was like double the price of the screamen demon. i ended up not getting one at all. wouldnt think you would have to replace it after 80k..

So predictable.

So one bad one off of the line and the whole company sucks? There are plenty of people on here with the SD pack and have had no problems with it. Where you there when they built it? How do you know they don't test it? You have proof?

He never said the company sucks or that they don't test it. He said it doesn't have as hardcore tests done on it as OEM, thus making it have the possibility of being less reliable.

Ok but how does he know? Was he there while it was being made? Id say one bad pack out of x number of people that use it is pretty damn good.

The proof is Performance Distributors (maker of Screamin Demon), or MSD have the equipment to do the recommended SAE reliability testing for
electronic components. GM, Chrysler, and Ford all require their electronic
component suppliers to go through these tests, this is why they are
SAE standards.

Something you don't know anything about, or would understand!!!

Are you there when they make it? You know for a fact they don't test it?

And why wouldn't i know or understand? I'm not the one to judge products with no proof or experience with them.

You fail to see the facts. Many people have the SD pack with no problems. One is bad off of the line but all well.

I know for a FACT they they don't do any SAE testing, I talked to the reps at SEMA back in November, and they said they didn't do any SAE reliability testing!!!

Good for you. You want a cookie or something now?

Still one bad pack out of X amount of Ranger users is not bad. I'd still buy one if I was trying to squeeze every ounce of performance out of my truck.

What are you doing at Sema if you hate aftermarket parts so much?

Brand new parts do come defective at times. Nothing you can really do about it.
