Stupid leak, stupid question

Hi there

I'm going to ask about this, not even thinking about looking like a looser :)

Honestly, I don't know crap about engines or cars in general, I try to learn when I can, mostly when something goes bad, but don't focus on this like lots of you guys do and it shows that you can really learn if you put dedication.

Enough brownie points ? :)

For real, I noticed a few oil spots in my driveway coming from my 2004 Edge, I changed the oil last week, so probably the screw got loose or something, but went under the truck and took this pictures so you can help me.

Oil level is fine, and tranny fluid is ok too ....

Is also using a lot of coolant and there's no leaks, is not overheating either, and I know these issues are probably not related to each other

any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Probably the rear main leaking, pretty common. Could also be the o ring on the cam synchro. Have had both of these let loose for me.

Thanks for the comment

what's involved in fixing that ? Is something that I can do myself with some help maybe, or it has to go to a shop for sure ?

How long can I wait to get it fixed, or which "side effects" could this bring me if not fixed quickly ?

thanks again

I'd get a can of brake clean and spray off the cam syncho first. Its located right behind the intake. Make sure if thats your leak or not before you start buying parts. If it turns out to be the rear main, I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself. Its a whole lot more involved than changing your oil, but if you know someone knowledgeable w/ tools, its definately doable in a weekend. Just know what your getting yourself into. Theres nothing wrong w/ running like that. You may want to buy a drip pan for the driveway and keep an eye on your oil level though. Id actually be more worried about the coolant problem, it has to be going somewhere... Check your plugs to make sure your not burning it. Whats your drive train, btw? A 2wd with a 5 spd is cake to work on.

How many miles on your truck? I think you should do it every 100,000 miles or so, varies I guess. I really think your rear main is whats leaking though.

Sorry for the delay.

Is an auto and I'm still under 60K , if you need better pics to have a better idea on what you're dealing with let me know, we're not using the truck right now.
