Throttle cable length?

Hi, new to the forum.

I have a '97 3.0L and the throttle cable has broken to the point that it sticks. I was wondering if anyone knew the length of the cable cover? I have checked around and can't find the cable so I need to order a universal. I'm just afraid that taking it off to measure will break it where I will be without the teuck while waiting for the cable to arrive

thanks! .

rather than finding the length, because universal lengths are made to be trimmed, you will have to make your own length, if you like a firm gas pedal just run the cable then pull it tight.

I just don't know the sheath length it needs! Or is that made to be trimmed as well?

Universal cables just need to be long enough, they can't be too long, within reason, lol.

The sheath is anchored/clamped at both ends so its length is not an issue.

The cable inside moves its throw distance based on gas pedal travel, so if it moves 2" at gas pedal end it will move 2" at throttle linkage end
The anchored/clamped sheath is what allows that, regardless of its length

A 4ft length or 7ft length sheath would still just move the same 2"

And yes, you can cut the sheath for better fit, less bending around, and cut the cable to match what you need

Thanks! I guess I'll order a long one and cut it down now that I know that the sheath gets teimmed as well! I appreciate it!
