tire upgrade/performance question

Ok so right now the tires i have are 28.9" in diameter and I have 4.10 gears. If I upgraded to 32" tires what would happen performance wise? I've heard counts of people gaining mpg from upgrading tires with the 4.10 gearing. It's not really a big deal im just curious.

yeah, you get better gas milage and it wouldn't really hurt it to much. I have 31's with 4.10s and its fine. I think with 32's you'd cruise really nicely on the highway. You wouldn't have that get up and go that your use to but it wouldn't be slow.

I just put 265/75/16's on my 3.0 with 4.10's last week. That equals 31.65 which is what most 32's measure. Looks a hell of a lot better, lost some low end power and I picked up about 1 mpg. I put my intake on at the same time and have been flogging the hell out of it since, so I'll probably get a bit better mileage after I calm down.

Awesome thanks guys! I can handle the loss of power with the increased mileage. It shouldn't be that bad anyway

Just remember that you "may" gain mileage, but you may not. See with larger tires, your gear will go down leaving less low end power on tap, so stop and go city driving will be a little harder on the motor. Freeway driving in theory should be better, but the added weight of larger tires also makes them harder to turn. That and a more aggressive tread patters create more rolling resistance....

Well i do about 5 times more highway driving right now then anything else, so that will work out in my benefit. It's not really that big of a deal, I was just curious. 1 mgp isnt gonna stop me from getting em haha.

Seeing how i have the same engine, stock tire size, and now 32s lets see... Of course your acceleration is going to be slower, but not by much.. especially not noticeable in a damn 3.0. My MPGs may of gone down .5mpg (after recalibrating for larger tires)

At the end of the day the onroad/offroad performance and soooooo much better looks would be worth the upgrade IMO even if i lost 3MPG

I'd go with a 31" tire. That's about the right size for the gears you're running I believe.
