transmission price
i have a 2001 3.0 liter engine with manual transmission. I keep hearing that the manual transmissions in rangers are worth a ton of money because they are hard to find, and im thinking about putting a 5.0 liter explorer engine in it anyway so i wont need it. I was just wondering if i could get some prices you've seen these trannys listed as so i can get any idea

is anything wrong with it? usually the bearing goes and causes the pressure plates to not lock/free-up (or engage/disengage). I was going to say just replace it yourself. My dad and I did that. took about 9 hours out in the back yard.haha. but since you are looking to upgrade, no clue. If you go to a junkyard you may get a good deal. Here in Lynchburg we have the Cunningham brothers "pick-n-save" and trannys are like 75 a piece. engines 150. but if someone takes something off something and you end up with just the block of the engine, still 150. and so goes for other components. too bad you can't get something from Manheim at auction price.

Anywhere from 100-700 depending on mileage and drivetrain config(4x4 or 2wd) and just like with everything else, prices very GREATLY from yard to yard..
Best thing to do is go onto www.car-part.com and see what yards in your area are asking for exactly what you've got(01 3.0 2wd? 4wd?).
They're not worth alot of money really....they're junk transmissions... Having gone through 3 in my truck.

yeah, car-part.com is great. it will usually post up other compatible years parts in whatever you search for too. but double check it.
reliability also depends on the error in machining, maintenance, and how hard on it someone is, IMO. My old toyota lasted probably at least 160k between the crazy marine who rolled it on a beach, another 130-150k with my dad, and then ME being a new driver and what I learned on. But I picked it up quick. so I wasn't TOO hard on it
