Un-moding the Engine
Un-moding the Engine
With the potential for a job requiring long commutes and an efan that can't cool the engine in traffic, I'm going to take a few days and change out my underdrive pulleys, Screaming Demon coil pack, and removing my efan.
I wanted to ask when reinstalling the stock fan and fan clutch, do you still need the special fan wrenches?

I'm sorry, but i dont understand the meaning behind this. The UD pulleys will net you better power and probably a mileage gain. With long commutes, i'd imagine you would be interested in a mileage gain. What electric fan are you running? Have you considered the water pump pulley to speed it back up?
As for the clutch fan i just used a monkey wrench and smacked it off, i'd do the same to reinstall it if i had to.

Frank, I also removed my efan and installed the stock fan. Just as Wayne said, get it on snug by hand. The reverse threads will tighten it up the rest of the way. It was not very easy to reinstall mine with the stock shroud in the way. Good luck.
The two biggest fuel economy improvements I have honestly seen are changing the exhaust and a CAI. I haven't used a tuner, but those two alone have, at least for me, made the biggest difference.
I don't need greater acceleration. I may leave it on to see the effect of it without the efan and the pulleys. I had the efan sold by Jusnes Modified.
P.S. My comment is NOT directed towards Frank.
I wouldnt necessarily call them "useless". They are PERFORMANCE mods, not MPG conscious econo-mods. Example: On my 2000, "I" felt a power increase off of the efan and underdrive pulley/pulley set, however they may not be the best bet if you are wanting more MPG. Same with a tuner, MOST people buy them for the power increase, not just MPG. Get a tonneau and better tires if you want better MPG.

Let's see independent dyno charts from somebody besides the "mod" companies!!
lol wow now I know why people call you the OEM ****.
Ever wonder why companies ask for consumer's vehicles to test on? THEY ARE REAL TESTS! Search on google my friend.
So if I chipped my 1.8T, you think it will be slower? Say.. what if I chipped it, added a cat-back, aftermarket down-pipe/BOV.. that stock would be better? Where's the logic?

its pointless to argue with Takeda over this. I know that MY truck performs better than stock with the rogue performance tunes, KN intake, and cat back exhaust. If takeda doesnt think so, thats fine.
I think I know what happened to him. He bought a tornado thinking he was going to get 5000hp from it but instead it fell apart and destroyed his engine. So now he thinks all aftermarket products are bad.
Be nice now yall. And yes, I'll be selling the pulleys (alternator and fan clutch + gatorback belt), the efan and wiring, and the coil pack. As for a price, I don't have one yet but PM me. Being in Cary, Plyswthsqurles, I'd MUCH rather sell to you then have to ship (no disrespect to anyone...it's just easier). PM me and we can set something up.

here we go again

anyway, i took my e fan off last fall and went from 230-250 miles per tank to under 200. needless to say i re-installed it, the reason i took it off was because i had it on the radiator with no shroud. the bottom of the radiator was packing with mud. not good. so when i re-installed it i made some brackets and installed it on my stock shroud. no more mud packing. i have never had any problems with overheating, weather stuck in traffic or towing a 1000 LB trailer up north 200 miles one way in 80+ degree heat with the A/C on this summer.
i think if you have UD pulleys you need the water pump pulley also
LOL
Frank dont give dave anything hes trying to out do me.... DONT DO IT!!! lol, Im just joking with you dave, also I think those lvl2 tow hooks may produce drag, might need to sell those too... how about to me????
Haha...I'd sell the level 2 hooks (seriously), but I would require a valence swap since I cut mine to make them fit properly. If someone has the Edge valence to match mine, I'd swap and throw in the hooks for $25.
