UPDATE - Squeeky Belt - Whats next?

Ok a recap.....belt squeeked back in october 2006, put a new DAYCO belt on and squeeking went away for 4 months, then came back.....didnt think it was the belt again since the noise now only was first few minutes while starting truck in wet weather.

Yesterday installed new idler pulley, but DID NOT install another new belt.

still squeeks bad.

What should i do next, if i get another belt, i will get a Gatorbelt...or could some other pulley be causing squeeking???

thanks, jr

ok guys, went to return something at advanced auto today, they dont carry gatorbacks in stock and 1 day to ship it but the guy there said they are good belts.

so i went to autozone and they had one left and the guy said they are good belts also.

i got it installed on truck and now will have to wait until tonight to find out what happens.

planning on rain and snow today so it is a good day for the test.........

will post here in a day or two with the results.

Dump the Dayco and put on a Goodyear gatorback belt like you're doing. I had the same problem and only the Goodyear belt solved it.

Now I wouldn't use any other belt.

I started my truck one morning and it started the Squeeling. Very loud. I took it to my local automotive guy and he replaced the IDLER pully and BELT. No more squeek. Cost me $110 for parts and labor.

that's not "squeaking" per sei, that's slippage of the pulleys and the sound of metal or abs plastic turning faster than the rubber....think of it like this...

you just put your rear tires (engine pulleys) in the bleach box at a drag strip, and now you're brake torquing the tires (belt)
