What do you guys think of 2.9's

Hey recently my four banger engine bent the crank so since it's cheaper for me to get a new truck, anywho, i was wander how sturdy of an engine is a 2.9 the truck is a second generation 5spd man. 4WD, hopefully going to check it out better tuesday, its my neighbors and i checked it out before but went with mine cause the body was in better shape, and it seemed good, nothing bad that i can remember, going to really inspect her, my dad had a 2.9 first gen EFI with 250,000 miles when he sold it just wanted to make sure they made them the same in the second generations. thanks for your input guys

yeah thats what i heard, but my dad loved his, but he also kept it well maintained like i like to do with my vehicles, most of the problems that i read it also said they can be easily prevented by keeping up with maintenance, mostly the oil and the coolant

I had a 2.9 in an 86 Bronco II, had over 160,000 miles and no problems. It was well maintained though. Still ran strong even to be over 20 years old at the time.

I had one and never had any issues with it. The only thing I didn't like was the power, or rather lack of.

Got a 1987 XLT Ranger with 2.9 V6 engine brand new back in '87. Blew the head gasket at 100k so had valves ground and belts and hoses replaced. That was 142,000 miles ago and the last big issue. Now at 242,000 miles and this truck starts right up every time. It does not burn a drop of oil- leaks it profusely but what Ford engine doesn't leak? Great engine, way more than my monies worth. Could have driven it to the moon at quarter million miles!

yeah the guy was a dick and decided not to sell it to me so i got a 3.0 the guy i bought it from said it was overhauled by the previous owner, and due to the old crudded up oil handing around the engine bay i'm pretty sure it blew a head gasket / cracked a head, the oil on the insolation on the hood kinda raises a red flag, i love it though so much more power than my old 2.3, the only problem is that as soon as i touched something in the engine bay i.e. plugs wires and caps the tps, mas, and o2 sensors took a **** on me, and then the day after the o2 sensors were replaced, and right after i put the new mas in o2 sensor in bank 1 isn't working right, advanced auto parts now has a happy customer
