Synthetic blends came in them from the factory. 5w20 to be exact. I ran Mobil 1 full synthetic in my 04 till it was totaled at just over 60K miles. Not a drop of leakage out of it.

I am going to switch back to royal purple in my engine
I tried Mobil 1 synthetic - some guy was swearing by it - it makes my engine knock for half a second on starting cold - shows its too thin and not grabby enough to stay where it should - Royal Purple sticks where it should, and is a fantastic oil - go royal purple, you wont regret it!

yeah, no need for any stabilizers - jsut straight royal purple wherever you want it... I jsut swapped out my 4x transfercase, and my tranny with full royal purple two weeks ago - I had my 4000 mile burn in on my spec stage 2 clutch and got around to changing the ATF in there to some synthetic - shifts nice n smooth now =)

I have 200k, dont use synthetic, or stabilizers. I have regular 5w-30 and a napa filter both I get at work that gets changed every 2500-3000. My truck runs like new, I never get ticking or any sounds at all from my motor.

Synthetic oils don't cause the leak. The leak was already there. I personally use Amsoil oil with an Amsoil filter and I change it every 7500 miles. Before that I would use Castrol Syntech with a quart of Lucas stabilizer.

I've got 83k on my 3.0 and have been running Mobile 1 and Purolator PureOne filters since day 1 and no leaks.

I researched filters for about 2 weeks before I chose the PureOne. Some guy tested a bunch in his Camero and sent the old oil from each to be tested and the PureOne came out the best.

Pick up the 5qt of the Mobile 1 at Wal-Mart for about ~$23. My engine can take the whole 5 qts with a filter change and still be under the full mark. The only store I've found that carries the Purolator filters is Advanced Auto Parts (~$5).

I changed the oil recently and used Mobil 1 5w-20,
along with a Motorcraft filter. For years, I've used
Castrol 10w-30 in everything, and I considered using
the same in the Ranger. What changed my mind was
the 10w-20 listed on the oil filler cap. I just couldn't
go against that and risk the wrath of the Ford Oil Police.....

10w-20 by it's very nature is a semi-synthetic oil, and it's
probably recommended because of the roller lifters in the
3.0.

I use what Ford recommends, Motorcraft Syn Blend 5w-20 with a Motorcraft filter changed at 4,000 - 5,000 miles intervals.

I used to use whatever is cheapest. Now I'm going to be putting Valvoline MaxLife synthetic blend 5w20 w/ motorcraft filter every 5k. depending on drive style and environment, some people have been getting 10k mile change intervals with Royal Purple. At those intervals, the price comes back down.

bob is the oil guy

edit: I have about 1500 miles to go before my next change. I'm going to send in a sample to Blackstone Labs to see what it shows.
