Won't go past 90 Mph

I have an 03 Ranger XLT 3.0 V6 2WD, once I get to around 90 mph it stops accelerating unless I am going downhill. The engine has less than 100K miles on it. It seems almost like its sputtering and trying to go faster but it just won't. What could the problem be?

I didn't think it had one. Is there a way to take it off? Cuz it's a real pain in the a** when you're racing and you top out at 90 and they pass you

I'll give u the answer were all thinking.

1 you're prolly 16 and dumb
2 u drive a 3.0 ranger u are the slowest on the road
3 racing is dumb even more so a truck.

U have to get a 3-400$ tuner to remove te limiter. It's not worth it cause ur truck is a effin dog. I don't even care about speeding I do it, but racing is dumb

Ok don't be an a**. For you're information I'm not 16 and I'm just working with what I got and I only race people who think they're cool in their pos Honda Civic. So you need to stop being a punk and not go on this site if you're just gonna bash people you don't know.

Yah well 95% of this forum is too mature to race so don't expect tips to help u or ppl to say good luck. We generally don't consent to highway douchery

Ohh Mr. High and mighty douchebag. Have fun getting beat by all the ricers you "Ranger Enthusiasts". As far as I'm concerned you are all the immature ones for just going on to bash people. You have no idea about how I go about things, I SELDOM race, I know my driving skill level and I don't push it. I've handled much more powerful cars and again I'm just improving on what I have. I don't care whether or not you thinks its "worth it" or not. I asked a question and it was answered before you started this bs so thank you for the answer and for future reference, just answer the question without the bs.

Ok, to answer your question again....

Its your speed limiter.

And please, be careful. We don't encourage speeding or racing on Ranger Forums. I have seen WAY too many "I wrecked my ranger" threads here recently. I'm not saying you are a bad driver or blah blah.....but all I'm saying is please be careful while driving.

LOL. So how old are you? 20?

First, in by book, street racing makes YOU a ricer. It doesn't matter what you drive. Second, you SELDOM street race? So you're only a part-time jackass? Good argument.

Ok, so how many drag strips have downhill sections? none in the racing lanes that i know of. and i don't really think a 3.0 will top out in a 1/4 mile. i could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

ok, so you are telling people not to bash on others they don't know...but yet, you are bashing on
people who think they're cool in their pos Honda Civic
. maybe it's all they can afford. and most civics are faster than a stock ranger, esp a 3.0. you came in here and opened a can of worms talking about doing more than 90 on a public road. drop it, we all know it's not on the strip. don't even try to act like it is. why not post some videos of you beating all these cars (geo metros....) on a strip just to shut everyone up?

There's just no need to be at that speed. The manufacturers put speed limiters to protect people from killing themselves....people who don't know that SUV's and Trucks are inherently unstable at high speed.

If you want to take your Ford to 90 mph, get a Ford Mustang or a Taurus SHO... You'll get either of those well past 90 and the cars will be remarkably stable. Above 90 mph, a Ranger starts to wobble and sway and, eventually, you'll lose control. This is true with almost any vehicle that's "heavy front/light rear."

What do I know? I'm an ASE Certified Master Technician, have a CDL, and also have been driving for 16 years, 10 of which professionally.

I drive a 1993 Nissan 240SX that I use to satisfy my need for speed.

I agree, I knew a tool who had a 99 Edge in high school with a 4banger who thought he was tough sh*t. Untill he wrapped it around a pole trying to beat a bronco 2.

What do you have to prove racing ricers around town? Do they bother you that much?

As someone who owns and loves a supposed "rice" vehicle (Nissan 240SX), I'll tell you what I do when someone in a compact pickup truck starts revving his engine up next to me at a red light...

First, I laugh....then I act like I'm going to race (vroom vroom)...then I let him burn up his expensive all-terrain tires off the line while I slowly proceed to the nearest parking lot so I can stop laughing uncontrollably.

I haven't raced anyone on a public road since I was 16...and that one ended in a wreck. I'm just glad I wasn't racing a pickup truck. That would have made me look 10x as stupid.
