96 ranger
Welcome to the forum
Neither until you have had it at least 6 months and know its going to last, don't want to spend optional money on a 23 year old vehicle until any "big stuff" is out of the way
What engine and transmission do you have
2WD or 4x4?
Does it not sit level now?

Right now it’s my dad truck and before their my grandpas so i know it will last it’s in good condition it’s a 4x4 with a manual and I belive it had a 6 cylinder 3.9 but I’m not positive and no it doesn’t sit level the front is about 2 inches lower than the back
1996 had two V6 engine options, 3.0l and 4.0l
3.0l will have "3.0l" on the black valve covers
4.0l will not
You will have an M5OD-R1 manual transmission, and a BW1354 transfer case
Rangers normally sit 1.5" higher in the rear so partially loaded bed won't sag too low
Look at the rear leaf springs where they bolt to the axle, you are looking for a 1" block/spacer between axle and spring, if you see it then these can be removed to lower the rear 1"
You can level(raise) the front with coil spacers, as shown here: https://www.therangerstation.com/how...l-your-ranger/
Or use new coils
If you want to use larger tires and just raise the whole truck then there are two options, Body Lift and Suspension lift
Body lift uses larger spacers between body and frame and is fairly straight forward
Suspension lifts are a little more complicated, on the front, rear is pretty straight forward
