04 4.0L SOHC V6 complete rebuild, buying parts
Hi, I have a blown head gasket and timing cassettes on an 04 4.0L V6 in a Ford Ranger. This is only my second head gasket, and I'm deeper into this engine than I have ever gone on and engine before. I can be fairly mechanically inclined, but there are always things I overlook in inexperience and trying to do too many things at once. For people like me, a complete rebuild kit with all the parts and at least simple instructions would be great if it existed. I already had the heads resurfaced, bought the upper and lower Engintech gasket set, the Cloyes timing set, and Engintech head bolts. I'm sure they are not the best quality. I'm wondering where you guys buy your parts? I need the rest of the parts to do a complete rebuild, and I'm using the standard OEM replacement dimensions. I can still see the crosshatching in the cylinders, from the factory I'm assuming. Everything seems tight enough. I'm not doing any more machining to this engine and I just want another 50k miles out of it if I can. Thats worth $1k into this to me right now and I'm $700-$800 in right now. The truck was $4,500 5 years ago. Shipping is an issue where I live, so free shipping can can hold a lot of weight in my final decisions. I see a couple piston kits on eBay, I order on Rockauto pretty often, and I don't think Amazon is likely a viable option for internal engine parts. Amazon is a major lifeline for me though due to the free prime shipping to Hawaii. My local Ford dealer doesn't stock parts for vehicles older than 2010. The truck has 200k on it, but the frame, suspension, body, interior etc have another 5 years in them at least. Thanks for your time and consideration.
