1/4 Time?
 

Hi im new to the site. although not to the ranger!!! This will be my third in four years. I just bought a 02 FX4 5speed. it has 20000 miles on it. Its completly stock! What kind of time should i expect???????????

16.5 seconds or higher.

If you wanted a fast truck from factory buy a lighting. A 4x4 is not ment for speed...too heavy

I've got a 06 FX4 and will be getting out to the track soon myself. Hoping to get into the mid 15s with mine.

The way mine sits now i ran 16.6 and spun off the line... thats with the big tires and all

i ran the 8th with mine and ran high 10s and the best i had was a 10.4 with a auto tranny manual shifting it and only a k&n

10.8's in the 8th only tried once prob could have done better with the auto with a couple more runs

I'll second D. Mine went like 16.47. Basically a 16.5.

you don't have to be someones defination of "fast" to run the 1/4 mile. At mid 16's you will be fast compared to some out there and slow compared to others. bracket racing tends to even it out if you want to race for $$ or trophies.

low to mid 13s.... wait.... thats what mine runs in the 1/8th mile...

My car test software says I'm capable of 15.48 @ 84.6mph

I've used this on many of my cars and it's proven to be pretty accurate. Does'nt mean I'll run that my first time out... but does indicate that I have the *potential* of running those ETs.

btw, it says a bone stock 94 splash 4x4 (4.0L) can run a 10.6 @ 63mph in the 1/8th.. and a 17.09 @ 75mph in the 1/4 (in 4x4 mode the whole way.. slower in 2wd)

i thought 4 wheel drive wasn't supposed to be used at high speeds like...anything above 45 or something?

I have used my 4wd up to 80 MPH in the snow :icon16:

Launch in 4wd and then turn it off. Works beautifully on my truck. :bandit:

I think lanching on pavement in 4WD could be a tricky thing. You will have to slip the clutch to keep the rpm up in order to get off the line well. I know it is difficult to launch a pickup with 2WD without a lot of wheel spin but with enough practice and proper setup, I think it would be better than launching in 4WD. That is unless you don't mind burning up the clutch.

I have a auto tranny. It's a no brainer for me. And I'm going dead straight too so the loads are pretty consistant. Don't really fell I'm hurting anything. Maybe adding a little undue stress to the transfer chain.. but oh well. They make replacements.

I go WOT and after I roll about 5 ft.. I just turn it off. It does'nt launch as hard as my lightning. But I'd say it'll cut a good 1.9 or 2.0 60ft.

thats what it took to get my brothers diesel ford into the 14's. Without a full spooled 4wd launch it was in the low 15's. Doing it in 4wd and switching to 2wd after rolling good got it in the mid/upper 14's.

An automatic Ranger may work better in 4WD off the line but I think you would need a high stall converter to get the most out of it.

A diesel has the torque to pull 4 wheels off the line.

It comes down to rear traction. The light end of these rangers makes it very hard to launch at anything but idle.

Yup. Launching my Ranger causes smoke and a weird squealing sound from my tires. I have yet to find out what it is. :burnout:

Ideal stall is 3400. Stock stall is only 2500 which hurts 60ft by 0.16 seconds. Mathmaticaly speaking that is. :biglaugh:

Even launching from a 700rpm idle (in 2wd) I can spin them. But in 4x4 mode it doesn't spin a lick launching from 2500.

That would essentially be a perfect run.

There is no way in the real world you'll be in the tens with only 63mph.

11.1-11.2s are the norm for only 63mph.

My guess would be a 60ft in the 2.0 region. So it might be possible with slicks but on a normal track night on street tires I would bet against that by a lot.

I have a 88 CRX that only traps 64 in the 1/8 and it runs consistent 11.0s
