2000 Ranger runnign cool
2000 Ranger running cool
I'm working on my dad's 2000 Ranger 4.0 4x4 4-door and I've run into an issue here where I can't for the life of me figure out why this thing is runnign so cool.
So far I have:
-Changed coolant
-Replaced Thermostat with 192
-Replaced 1-wire coolant temprature sensor
-Tested gauge by grounding the 1-wire to the negative battery post which pinned the gauge at full hot
-Fan spins freely in both directions with the engine off
Using my scanner I checked the coolant temprature and it read 145 degrees while the engine was as warm as it would appear to get.(running for an hour or so idling).
Vehicle seems to run perfect.
Other likely unrelted issues I haven't gotten to yet but will post anyway in the off chance there is a correlation:
-P0113 Intake Air Temperature Circuit High Input
-p0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)
The heat isn't scorching, but it will get fairly toasty in the cab if it's left going for awhile. All the hoses seem to only get luke warm never to hot to handle. I did notice the upper radiator hose becomes extremely stiff with the engine running. Perhaps that is normal though? I've never noticed it being that stiff before.
I also just discovered while trying to pinpoint this problem that his CEL doesn't work. Those two codes I took off the scanner didnt register on the vehicles ECM. Strange... It's really starting to look like maybe the dealer pulled some funny stuff to hide problems...
That is neither here nor there though. Anyone have any ideas? Right now the only thing I can think of is that they gave me a bad thermostat. Thought I would check here first before draining the system again to test it.
