2011 ford Ranger engine swap

Thank you guys for having me, a ton of awesome information here. First, I am not a mechanic, just a guy trying to fix his truck so I apologize in advance for any stupid questions. I have a 2011 Ford Ranger 4.0 standard shift 4x4. The rear timing chain broke and busted up all kinds of stuff in the engine. Iong story short, the engine needs to be replaced. I know this engine is used in several other vehicles, where can I find out other vehicles and year models use the same engine so I can start searching for a replacement. I do not have 3500.00 for a new one.
Thanks and Aloha,
Bill

You would swap over your intake and wiring, probably oil pan as well

4WD versions of the 4.0l SOHC had an internal balancer shaft(and 4th timing chain), it was added to offset a vibration issue the engineers "thought" might occur when Rangers got "Live Axles"(always locked front hubs), so front drive shaft was always spinning.
Over the years people have swapped 4.0l SOHC engines with and w/o balancer shafts into 4WD and 2WD and didn't matter, no vibrations in either case.
I have a 2003 2wd that needed a replacement, as well. I found a 2008 motor from a 4x4 and it was a direct bolt in. I only had to change the wiring harness, PCV (mine is coolant heated while that 2008 PCV was electric) and fuel injectors and rail over. Exhaust and intake were the same and was pretty by-the-numbers. With the balance shaft, I didn't have to change my oil pan as I feared. It fit nicely.

If and when you do find a replacement, go ahead and replace the rear seal and knock sensor while they're in the open. For fun and giggles, replace the timing chain tensioners. All those aren't expensive, but they're a PITA to replace with the engine installed.
