I have a decent oil leak coming from the front of the drivers side of the engine on my 1996 4.0 Ranger. It doesn't pool up but its enough to get my driveway dirty. I pulled the upper intake to do some other work and get a better look at the same time and it doesn't look like the valve cover is leaking. I'm wondering what other areas could be the source of the leak. The truck only has 48k on it (I know, both I and the previous owner don't drive much) so I am a bit reluctant to pull the engine. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I would start by degreasing and cleaning the leaky area so that you can pin point where the leak is coming from. If your still having trouble figuring out where its coming from take some pictures and post them up.

 

im not sure on which 4.0 motor or exactly what its for but i know there is a TSB out for an oil leak problem on the 4.0

 

OHV's have 2 problems. 1. Faulty rear main seal. 2. Poor oil circulation in valvetrain. that might be the cause but i doubt it since its so low miles (rear main).
