4.0 SOHC Question

Hi guys,

I have a 1997 Explorer that runs good, but the body is shot. I want to put the motor/transmission in a much older car.

Can this be done? Has anyone done this before?

I tried the search option without any sucess.

Thanks for any comment you may have.

What car are you trying to put it in? Anything is possible with enough time, money, and knowledge.

I want to remove the Explorer body and put my 1937 Ford body on the Explorer frame and use the engine/transmission, frame, etc...
As far as money is concerned I have limited funds. Time wise I have from now until I push up daisies.

The 37 ford has no engine/transmission and frame is rotted beyond repair, but the body is good. The Explorer has great engine/transmission, frame and body is beyond repair. Seems only natural to use the good parts from both to make one good vehicle.

I'm not all too sure about how the frame will swap over, but it can't be too bad, older trucks like that are real simple. take some measurements and see where the body mounts.

The wheelbase is almost exactly the same and I want to replace the floorboard anyway so I can make it line up. I don't have a clue on all the sensors, computer, etc... if I can use the original computer and only hook up the equipment I am going to use?

I would say give it a shot. Somebody just put a ranger body on an explorer frame so if that can be done I am sure the older one can be done. Like STX said the older trucks are simple.

I'm sure it can be done if you have the knowledge to figure it out! Price shouldn't be a problem if you already have the tools and are able to do the work yourself.
