What The F***
I finally got my flowmaster 40 series in today and I went to Mighty Muffler to get it installed. They guy took me out to look at and asked me why i was going to put it on. I told him that I liked the sound of the straight pipe and duel tips but I wanted the low torque and the mpg.
He said that with the Rangers there is already enough back pressure becasue of the 4 cats I have and if I put on the 40 series there will be to much back pressure because of the 3 or 4 sets of baffles with in the 40 series and slow me down and lose HP. He aslo said that my straight pipe is the best design for the Rangers.
Why did he say this and all the people on the forum say different?
What do I do?

flowmasters dont build much torque because the baffles in the muffler slow the exhasut gas velocity. The performance will be better than stock, but not better than a better engineered muffler, like a magnaflow or gibson. so he is not completely wrong, but i would never recommend straight pipes because of the sound.

I wouldnt listen to the idiot...Hes probably one of those guys whos a Yuppe who dont like loud things, ie: trucks, motorcycles, cars etc....Flowmasters sound good on 4.0's, ide put it on, I mean you can spend the estra money, get the close to the same rumble plus torque and perf from a magnaflow, borla, or gibson....
All in All, if you got the muffler, put it on, it wont hurt you any.....well anything noticable anyways.

^ but damn you had me all hyped up talkin about how good borla sounds and such on other threads, as I was gonna try out a Borla on my truck! lol I've been eyeballing some Pro XS mufflers on ebay and for $80 i think i might try it.. Although I just have my flow dumped and I intend on keeping it that way with a new muffler, how different would it sound than my 40 series? What about performance? Thanks

i got mine straight piped with a y and exiting infront of the rear tire with 2 oval tips about 12" long and prob around 3-3.5" diamiter and it sounds a hell of a lot better then the flow 40 delta i had. the other good thing with the way i have it now is i do have more power then with the flowmaster on it.

Whats with exhaust shops not wanting to install mufflers? I had meineke make a cat-back for me on my ranger for $240, and that included the Flowmaster 40 series, labor/ piping. They did a single pipe, and I had it kick out in front of the rear passenger wheel, and they split the pipe and did dual tips. Sounds awesome.
