94 4.0 ticking when cold

i have a 94 b4000. and with the cold weather latelly i have noticed that it ticks when cold. some times it loud some times its quit. but it sound like it is comeing from the back side of the moter. maybe like a lifter are something. it kinda sounds like a belt but its not. and i know on the 3.0 there it a gear back there that drives the oil pump that does that but i'm not shur about the 4.0's. and its 4x4 so it has the cam position seneser back there too. so as you can see i'm kinda lost on were to start looking. and i rater fix it befor somthing BAD happen's. thanks for the help.

How many miles are on it? Lifter tick is pretty much expected sooner or later on the 4.0L.

i think it has just at 180,000. runs like a champ. i love my 4.0. but any way i put the lucas oil and fuel tretment in when ever i change the oil. cause it does burn a qrt. about ever 3,000. and i go ever 6,000 on oil changes with blend oil. i dont think it is in the fuel injecter it sounds like a lifter but it only does it when its cold out

I had the same exact problem on my 96 4.0 about a month or so ago, a lifter ticked when started in cold weather, eventually stopped though. I just added about half a quart of oil, I don't remember the name, but it's the same deal as miracle oil, so whatever brand works really.

COULD BE CARBON BUILD UP AROUND THE VALVES,IF SO A GOOD INJECTOR FLUCH AND OIL TREATMENT WILL WORK,IF IT GETS WORSE YOUR LIFTERS COULD BE ON THIER WAY OUT

A) Caps lock isn't necessary

B) His lifters are fine. Every 4.0 ticks eventually. I've seen some tick forever until the owner got rid of the truck.
